Why visit?

Udawalawe National Park is one of Sri Lanka’s most popular and accessible national parks, primarily famous for its high density of Asian elephants. Beyond elephants, you can spot water buffalo, wild boar, deer, crocodiles, and a spectacular array of bird species. The open grasslands and the reservoir make wildlife spotting relatively easy.

Opening hours: Typically open from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily. Early morning safaris are highly recommended for the best wildlife viewing.
What not to miss: Elephant herds around the reservoir, various bird species, and if you're lucky, a glimpse of a leopard (though rarer here).
Safari jeeps: Safaris are conducted in specialised open-top jeeps with experienced drivers/guides. The resort can help arrange your safari.
Location: Approximately a 20-minute drive to the park entrance from Grand Uduwalawe Safari Resort.
What to bring: Camera with a good zoom lens, binoculars, hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water. Wear comfortable, light coloured clothing.
